The OMP Running Challenge: Running for a Cause

As appeared in Gazet van Antwerpen (BE), March 30, 2019:

OMP has been participating in the Antwerp 10 Miles since 2007. This year will be the first time that more than 140 OMP people will be at the starting line, including some marathon runners. Why so many runners? It’s all thanks to CEO Anita Van Looveren challenging her 550 colleagues (including 300 in Belgium) to participate in the OMP Running Challenge.

From Brasschaat start-up to global player

Since being established in Brasschaat in 1985, OMP has become an innovative, global company that optimizes the supply chains of leading international companies with OMP, the company’s smart software and consulting services. Its broad international customer base includes ArcelorMittal, BASF, Danone, Johnson & Johnson, Michelin, P&G, Shell and Smurfit Kappa. OMP has grown alongside its customers and now employs 550 people with 35 different nationalities.

From its head office in Wommelgem, where the company moved to in 2004, OMP manages its regional offices in Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, the Middle East, the Netherlands, the UK and the US. There are also satellite offices in Drongen and Wavre, and a development center in the Ukraine.

Challenged by the CEO

In January, CEO Anita Van Looveren declared 2019 to be the year of connections and she challenged all employees to join her in the OMP Running Challenge. “By striving for the same goal with the same energy, we create a strong connection between our internal teams so we’re ready and able to take on anything that comes our way!”

As Antwerp isn’t accessible for all colleagues, the company also suggested local running competitions in Atlanta, Cologne, Paris, Rotterdam and Shanghai.

And, as an extra incentive, OMP decided to donate 20 euros per kilometer run to charity. That means if every employee runs 5 kilometers, over 50,000 will be raised for a good cause.

Professional running training

This challenge caught the attention of many people at OMP, leading to numerous pairs of running shoes seeing the light of day again. To ensure everyone could break personal records without being injured, former top athlete Hanna Mariën and her colleague Christoph Strijbos from the Functional Training 2150 personal training studio provided professional running support and training
